Raising awareness on the importance of water as a natural resource and the cooperation needed between governments, public and private sectors, academia and civil society for sustainable development is extremely important, especially if we want to tackle of the challenges derived from and exacerbated by the impacts of climate change. World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 and this year the theme is Glacier Preservation. The session intends to bring together different sectors and international partners to explore the challenges for the multiple uses of watercourses, and the impact to these facing extreme weather events. It offers a platform for discussion taking into account the legal framework provided by the UN Water Convention and main principles of international water law, best practices and innovation, and the different ways of international cooperation that promote the sustainable management of water resources so that the present and future generations can continue to benefit.
